The wind howled through the sails as the boat rocked violently against the crashing waves. Jake gripped the wheel, his knuckles white, rain stinging his face like tiny needles. He had set sail under clear skies, but now the storm was upon him. Lightning split the sky, illuminating the dark clouds that loomed overhead. The lighthouse on the distant shore flickered for a moment, then vanished into the mist. He was alone. The storm wasn’t just any storm, this was the one sailors whispered about, the one that had swallowed ships whole.

The complication

  1. Jake's boat takes on water rapidly, and he must find a way to bail it out before it sinks.
  2. The storm causes the navigation system to fail, leaving Jake lost at sea with no way to steer towards safety.
  3. A mysterious figure appears on the shoreline, seemingly beckoning him to shore, but Jake wonders if it's a mirage or a real person in danger.
