Should video gaming count as a sport? Some people say yes, because competitive gaming needs fast reactions, lots of practise, teamwork and tournaments, just like other sports. Others argue no, because it does not have the same level of physical activity and movement that most people expect from a sport. Think about the lunchtime competition at school where classmates organise teams, keep score and train, and tell me what you think.

Sentence starters

  1. Although I enjoy gaming, I think we should decide whether it counts as a sport by comparing how much training and teamwork each activity requires.
  2. Have you seen how our lunchtime teams practise together and keep score, and does that not sound like a school sport to you?
