Under the glow of the full moon, Tariq stepped forward, his cloak billowing in the desert wind. Before him, the ancient temple, carved into the mountain itself, stood in eerie silence. His horses pawed at the sand nervously, sensing the mystery that lay ahead. A strange blue light glowed from the temple’s entrance, pulsing like a heartbeat. With one deep breath, Tariq tightened his grip on his satchel and took the first step inside.

The complication

  • Tariq enters the temple and the pulsing blue light starts to fade, trapping him in shadowed corridors with shifting walls that close behind him.
  • One of Tariq’s horses bolts outside, leaving him without a guide back, and the satchel’s strap tears so the mysterious object inside starts humming louder.
  • A guardian statue awakens and mistakes Tariq for a thief, pursuing him through the temple while the strange light reveals hidden runes that change the path.

Sentence starters

  1. Suddenly Tariq swung his satchel across his chest and strode toward the glowing entrance.
  2. The air smelled of old sandalwood and dust, and the blue light painted the walls like a living painting.
