The wind was still as I stood beneath the ancient tree, its twisted roots winding deep into the earth. Tonight, something felt different, as if the air held a secret waiting to be told. I looked up at the tree's face, its bark smooth but carved with age-old wisdom, and I heard it. The tree's deep voice rumbled, as if the very earth had spoken, “Tonight, the secret must be shared.” My heart raced as I leaned closer, wondering what secret the tree had kept hidden all these years.

The complication

  • The tree reveals a secret that needs a guardian, and I must decide whether to accept the responsibility even though it could change my life.
  • A rival from the nearby town arrives, believing the secret will grant power, and tries to force the tree to reveal more than it should.
  • The secret is a warning: a hidden danger beneath the roots is waking, and I must find a way to stop it before the whole area is harmed.

Sentence starters

  1. Suddenly, I pressed my hand against the trunk and felt a warmth that ran like a secret river through my bones.
  2. The night smelled of damp soil and old rain, and the moon painted the bark with a silver glare that made the carvings seem alive.
